Niagara Transformer Corporation, Buffalo, NY seeks Test Engineers

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting and testing of liquid filled power class transformers utilizing international standards including IEEE, CSA, IEC, UL, NMX, ISO, ANSI and ASTM in order to ensure individual performance and compliance testing standards of transformer.
  • Utilization of a wide variety of testing equipment for high potential testing, power factor testing, low resistance measurements, transformer testing, and other electrical equipment within a power, heavy industrial and commercial electrical system.
  • Perform testing of liquid filled power class transformers using high voltage test equipment including Impulse generator, Hi pot, Loss Measurement systems, Partial discharge acoustic detection, Thermography and Recurrent Surge Generator. Calibrate and perform functional tests on micro-processor based, high voltage test equipment, including Doble software for testing up to 100 MVA, 230 kV and 650 kV BIL.
  • Direct and coordinate testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements and commissioning of a liquid filled power class transformer laboratory including test circuits design and development, contractor supervision, testing validation procedures, electrical circuit calculation, safety programs and test equipment selection. Train and instruct project team members including engineers and technicians on performing tests on liquid filled power class transformers.

Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor's (or educ. equiv.) Degree in Electrical Engineering and four (4) yrs. experience in the Job Offered.
  • Experience must have included four (4) yrs. Utilizing international standards including IEEE, CSA, IEC, UL , NMX, ISO, ANSI and ASTM in order to ensure individual performance and compliance testing standards of each liquid filled power class transformer; Performing liquid filled power class transformer testing up to 100 MVA, 230 kV and 650 kV BIL; Use of high voltage test equipment for liquid filled power class transformers including Impulse generator, Hi pot, Loss Measurement systems, Partial discharge acoustic detection, Thermography and Recurrent Surge Generator; Project management, testing and commissioning of a liquid filled power class transformer laboratory including Test circuits design and development, Contractor supervision, Testing validation procedures, Electrical circuit calculation, Safety programs and Test equipment selection; Performing oil test laboratory project management and commissioning including Fluid test laboratory design and the development and implementation of testing to determine dielectric strength, power factor, moisture, and dissolved gas analysis; Performing type testing and acceptance testing to meet UL, cUL and CSA standards for liquid filled power class transformers; Instructing and training engineers and technicians on performing tests on liquid filled power class transformers; and Performing internal quality audits meeting ISO 9001-2008 standards as it relates to liquid filled power class transformer testing and quality metrics.
